Excuses Eggs

Let's Stop Making Excuses And Get Started"

Ahhhhh, excuses, fresh out of the oven. They taste so wonderful in the moment, don’t they? So sweet and so savory. Do you remember those excuses that were really popular but somewhat outrageous? Excuses such as, why didn’t you do your homework? My dog ate it? And then if you weren’t careful, they turned into excuse like, why didn’t you exercise? I’ve had a long day. Why didn’t you start that project you’ve been dreaming of? Someone shot it down. It always seems like something doesn’t it?

Let’s face it; us humans can come up with all kinds of reasons why we can’t or let me rephrase that, don’t start something and frankly sometimes those excuses’ stem from fear.

Are you afraid?

A few years ago I was introduced to a very successful speaker but who seemly had every excuse in the world not to start. His name is Nick Vijicic, maybe you’ve heard of him. I remember when I first saw him on stage he immediately grabbed my attention. Why? Because he was one stage with no arms and no legs. Often, when I would see Nick speak, he would be on stage on top of a small table and I would be thinking,” isn’t he afraid that he might fall”? Nonetheless, he would speak such powerful and profound words that my attention would quickly be diverted to the subject he was speaking about and my heart would be touched every time. Nick’s motto is “ No arms, no legs, no limits” in essence he is a man who changes lives with NO EXCUSES!

By the way, this man does many things that most people would probably deem impossible or difficult to achieve in his condition. Nick has a beautiful family, spoken all over the world, written books, and he does some pretty cool surfing. In essence, this man doesn’t allow excuses to prevent him from reaching his goals and changing lives. Check out this short video of Nick surfing?

So how can we combat Fear? By combating lies and replacing them, with truth.

Since I was a child, I have always been on the stage doing something, from tap to ballet to theater to speaking. I can tell you so many times when I have felt afraid. I remember one specific time when I had to go on stage in front of about 1,000 people, and I literally said to myself, “ I can’t do this” and then they called my name and I went out on stage anyways. Apparently, what I told myself before I went on stage was a lie. Since then I have been learning that often times what we think we can’t do, we actually can.

Words are powerful

What we tell ourselves matter because words are powerful. At times we might hear words like, you can’t’ do this, who do you think you are? You’re not this enough or that enough, but I have been learning that you must replace lies with truth. For me, the truth is, I can do anything with faith, a good work ethic and God’s grace.

Did you know?

There are so many people who have gotten amazing things done who were not the smartest, or the quickest, or the richest, but guess what? They were the ones who were willing. Are you willing to start? Remember you don’t have to be the smartest or the fastest or the most creative you just have to be willing to start. Start that book, start that business idea, start that team, start that class. Just start. You’ve got what it takes.

The reason I choose excuses eggs for this week's recipe is because excuses are like eggs; there are all kinds of ways to make them. So let’s get after it, I believe in you!
