"Benefits Of Laughter"

Have you ever laughed so hard that your stomach started to hurt or have you ever laughed unexpectantly and all your food flew out of your mouth? I know disgusting, but hey it happens! The truth is: laughing is fun and girls and boys just want to have fun! Plus there are some fantastic health benefits to laughter.

Did you know that research shows that laughter can lower blood pressure, improve cardiac health, reduce stress, burn calories and more? Can you Imagine going for a laugh instead of going for a run? That would be awesome!

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting two wonderful women who are longtime friends. Some time ago they were both faced with the same severe illness, and during their treatments, they said that they would call each other for encouragement and do you know how they encouraged each other? By telling each other jokes and making each other laugh! I guess the saying is true, Laughter is medicine!

I love to laugh, don’t you?

Some people pay a lot of mullah just to get a good laugh, and of course, there are always those times when someone shares a horrible joke. You know the one that either took too long to get to the punch line or maybe the one that at the end of it you were stuck thinking, “ Huh, I don’t get it” and this wasn’t because you weren't intellectual enough. The joke was just a dud.

Ok, I must admit, I ‘m no comedian and I ‘ve told a boring joke or two. The kind that ended with complete silence and you could hear the crickets chirping. But apparently, it was funny to me. Either that or I told the joke wrong. Yes, I’ve done that a few times.

Hey, it’s okay that we don’t all laugh at the same things. We all have different types of humor and that’s what makes us uniquely special. Plus, there’s always those inside jokes that no one can compete with because it’s between you and someone else or maybe even between you and your self. Sometimes a simple memory can cause a little giggle.

The truth is I think we all need to laugh a little more. Loosen up a bit. Laugh lines are good every now and then. Laugh at yourself, laugh at your family, laugh at your dog!Be happy!

Even our imperfections can be funny. You know, the times when you’re looking all over for your sunglasses only to realize that they were on top of your head the entire time. Or maybe you find your cell phone in the fridge and you think to yourself. “ What was I thinking”? Well, hey maybe you weren’t thinking and you had a lot on your mind at the time, but sometimes those situations are worth a good laugh.

I choose a teaspoon of laughter for today’s recipe because that’s all it really takes. Just a little. One joke or one small funny thought can have you or someone else rolling on the floor with joy. Plus, laughter doesn’t have to cost a penny. So grab a funny friend, look up your favorite comedian, and laugh away. Here’s a tip, it’s okay to laugh at yourself sometimes. Us humans do some funny things.
